Phnom Penh, Cambodia [29.05.2024] - The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) conducted a successful meeting on Wednesday, May 29th, 2024, to discuss the progress on locomotive procurement from Japan with a delegation from Royal Railway Cambodia (RRC). H.E Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, led the meeting, joined by representatives from the MPWT. Mr. John Guiry, CEO of Royal Railway Cambodia, headed the RRC delegation and presented an update on the current status and technical specifications of the locomotives.
Minister Peng Ponea commended RRC's efforts to secure the new locomotives. He underscored the paramount importance of prioritizing passenger's safety and comfort when the locomotives are deployed. The Minister further highlighted the need for Royal Railway Cambodia to implement comprehensive safety measures specifically tailored to these new locomotives. These measures could encompass enhanced public awareness campaigns, rigorous driver training programs focused on the safe operation of the new locomotives, and the strategic placement of signage and safety barriers at critical locations such as road intersections and high-traffic urban areas.
